Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate - 8 Major Overhauls That Would Save The Franchise
6. Remove Eagle Vision, Replace With A Reliable Map
Let's make this very plain and simple to read; Eagle Vision is terrible. Not only does it do a useless job at tracking enemies outside your immediate vision, but tagging someone through a wall, above or below you etc. just looks really naff - like they're floating in the game world around you. The visual effect Ubi have used in more recent instalments has gotten cleaner and cleaner, but all that's done is get away from the computerised look necessary to pull off the whole "Enemies in other rooms still show up" aesthetic in the first place. In Syndicate you can see Eagle Vision is still in effect, to which we're now getting Metal Gear Solid 4's area-of-effect detection line; something that pulsates in the direction of enemies, but will no doubt still fail to prevent someone wandering around the corner from miles away and spotting you from across a rooftop. Instead of all these attempts to be different, just go with what works; a larger map, with vision cones. There's a reason the most revered stealth game of all time is Metal Gear Solid, and if you're going to go with this whole 'user interface' HUD stuff, then what harm is there in pulling in some story reasoning like "The animus is aware of everyone's electronic fields and where they must have been looking at the time"? At the end of the day, this major hindrance is directly in the way of playing Assassin's Creed as a believable assassin, and that's a major problem.
