Assassin's Creed: Valhalla Trailer Review: 6 Ups & 1 Down
4. Smoother Combat
From the moments of sheer artistry as we see monumental battles unfold with Vikings Warriors masterfully wield their spears to more gritty moments of close quarter combat, the trailer showcases that we are in store for a crisp, free flowing time as we take down our foes.
The methods of attack we see with the spear, the axe, and other pieces thrown from distance look incredible. Assassin's Creed has had its trouble, but combat has generally been its redeeming quality, and this looks no different here.
It looks like we are getting larger scale battles on a more regular basis throughout the campaign, if this is the case it'll be interesting to see how smoothly the fighting holds up with multiple enemies and allies around, but if this trailer is anything to go by, it's all good to go.
Granted this is a cinematic trailer, but throughout its history, Assassin's Creed has maintained a dynamic approach to dodging, movement and parries or blocks, and some of the fight sequences in the trailer show some hard-hitting, thunderous attacks and desperate defending which can only add to the overall weight of the combat. It seems that more than ever, actions have consequences, and that's awesome.
