Assassin's Creed: Victory Wishlist - 10 Things Fans Demand

8. A Better Mission Structure

Here's a mind-blowing question; does Assassin's Creed need to be open-world? The stealth games of old like Tenchu and Splinter Cell barely knew what open worlds even were - yet they were all the better for it. Splinter Cell: Blacklist's approach to missions back in 2013 was to give you a massive overarching map of the world, letting you pick missions with a certain degree of variation or importance depending on their relation to the main story. Assassin's Creed would benefit wholeheartedly from letting their art department focus on far more tightly-packed individual areas, rather than fleshing out alleyways and alcoves of gigantic cities that no one is 1. Going to see and 2. Even appreciate. You can still do all the leaping, jumping and swinging through levels as before - it would just be in dedicated walled-off chunks of the environment rather than an entire city - hell, the Animus simulation aspect perfectly fits this approach to a tee. If you're not totally in agreement or you're about to rage out in the comments - just ask yourself what does AC being open-world actually benefit the player, and would a Hitman/Splinter Cell approach suit it far better?
