Batman Arkham City Sequel: 6 Ways Rocksteady Can Evolve Gameplay
We break down our vision for how Rocksteady can evolve their Batman franchise, and leave Arkham City in the dust. Gotham here we come.
It's truly a great feeling to have a game studio that has completely and utterly succeeded in creating an amazing Batman gaming experience. With Rocksteadys Arkham series, they captured the very essence of Batman and thrust him into the digital world at full force. On August 25, 2009 Arkham Asylum lept into action with a fairly linear story that utilized the characterstics of what made Batman, well, Batman. Elements of stealth lingered throughout the game, players engaged in fluid and brutal combat, and Batman faced off against a wide array of villains. Gamers and Bat-fans everywhere were widely impressed. After Arkham Asylum everyone knew that a sequel would be coming, it had to be. The success of Arkham Asylum defined Rocksteady studios as one of the very few developers to nail a comic book inspired video game. The real question was whether or not they could ever follow up on such an astounding success. When Batman lept from the shadows again on October 18, 2011 with Batman: Arkham City... Rocksteady stunned critics and gamers alike for the second time. The studio accomplished what seemed to be the impossible. They watched as their inspiration and drive found Bruce Wayne breaking the cuffs off, and escaping into a fully realized open world. Arkham City now became the definitive Batman game. With such an incredible accomplishment, gamers have been left to ponder a wide range of questions. The biggest one of all would have to be how can they possibly top Arkham City? Rocksteady recently released Harley Quinn's Revenge which picked up immediately after the events of Arkham City. The DLC extended the storyline by telling what becomes of Harley, and allowed gamers to play as Robin within the story. It was a great addition that easily calmed the hunger of eager fans for maybe three hours, but what's the next step? How can they evolve the franchise into the next level of potential that we all know Rocksteady is capable of delivering? Weve decided to do just that by taking a look at ways in which the team can evolve their gameplay and even look at brand new mechanics that could be implemented. It's what we would do, and what we hope Rocksteady does. With any luck we might just offer up some great ideas for the team, and perhaps spark a discussion on one of our favorite video games of all time. Just, please dont use a coin to determine our success. Seriously, dont flip a coin. Click next below to start reading
