Batman: Arkham Knight: 10 Things It Must Learn From Shadow Of Mordor

1. The Nemesis System

Shadow Of Mordor's most unique feature is also its most exciting. The Nemesis System sounds like something hidden within a file in Resident Evil but it's actually Shadow Of Mordor's way of making combat always mean something. Enemies in the game are randomly generated with names, personality traits and power levels, making each one unique. Tracking down and targeting a single Captain is key in Shadow Of Mordor but this is the very tip of this impressive system. Sauron's Army is constantly changing and evolving as you progress through the game; every time you eliminate a Captain, another will take his place (though not in a way that ruins your game) and Captains and Soldiers can fight amongst themselves, creating power struggles that can eliminate enemies without you lifting a finger. Beware though, enemies also grow in Power on a constant basis, making them a bigger threat to you. It's an interesting system as it generates story with little effort. Each enemy has their own personality and when you battle against them, you'll see their traits, strengths and weaknesses come into play. If you are defeated, they'll remember you and taunt you upon your return for vengeance; little details like these makes the game's many battles far more interesting. Plus, as the cycle is never-ending with constant promotions and new challengers, you could be on a constant mission to tear apart Sauron's Army, long after the rather bland story missions are over. This system seems ready made for the Arkham series. Batman's struggles to overcome crime syndicates are well documented and with the Nemesis System, beating down thugs and trying to gather intel on higher-ups within the Mob could be more personal. It could also be tied into Batman's rogue gallery; followers of the Joker could do battle with Poison Ivy's followers to gain Power, as an example. Monolith have come up with a clever, unique system to make combat exciting and vengeful; Rocksteady can now take influence from that and make the system even better. Agree? Disagree?
