Batman Arkham Knight: 12 Big Questions Rocksteady Need To Answer

12. Is the Joker Really Dead?

Ok, ok, Rocksteady have basically came out and said that yes, the Joker is in fact dead, but does this mean he's done in the Arkham universe? Is it all merely a ploy to make the impact of the Joker's return all the more exciting? It's highly doubtful that the clown prince of crime expired without some sort of contingency plan in place. If you cast your mind back to Arkham City, many believe that there's an instant where the Joker could have swapped places with his doppelganger Clayface, pretending that he died from his disease and tricking the Batman. As Batman passes out briefly in this scene, it's more than possible that old Joker swigged down some cure, swapped places with Clayface and sauntered off into the night ready for more mischief. While this may or may not be the case, the Joker's presence mentally is almost a given in Arkham Knight. Unfortunately for Batman, he and the Joker, while polar opposites, are almost inseparable. There's no doubt that Batman will be emotionally affected by the Joker's death, and with Scarecrow returning as an important villain, there's more than likely going to be hallucinations and crazy happenings that could resurrect the Joker as part of Batman's brilliant but conflicted mind. Whether the Joker is in Batman Arkham Knight only briefly or returns as a major part of the storyline remains to be seen, but I'm going to bet right now that he appears at least in some aspect.
