Batman: Arkham Knight - 8 Reasons The Joker Should Stay Dead

7. It Will Feel Forced

It truly was a shame when Black Mask was revealed to be The Joker in disguise during an early twist in Arkham Origins. Warner Brothers Montreal were - much to the surprise of gamers around the world - actually upping Rocksteady in some ways of the storytelling department. Not only was it darker and much more brooding, but they were using characters that don't often get a chance to be the true villain in a mainstream story arc, and creating a compelling tale of a young and reckless Batman who becomes the methodical and calculated Dark Knight we've come to know and love today. The twist unfortunately felt forced, and came across as Warner Brothers Montreal taking Black Mask as far as they could go, only to bring in a familiar face that is easier to write around. If Rocksteady decides to do something similar - like making the mysterious Arkham Knight secretly The Joker in disguise - it's only going to feel doubly forced. The fact that people are expecting these things so vehemently already is proof enough that this wouldn€™t be a surprise, but an annoyance.
