1. It's A Prequel
Early in the pre-production phase of Origins, it was rumoured that it would be a prequel based on the Silver Age of Comic Books and that it would feature Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash and Green Lantern. This plan didn't come through in the end and they decided just to stick with the prequel idea, ditching the Silver Age concept entirely. Batman Arkham Origins is going be based five years before the events of Arkham Asylum and will feature a younger Batman (obviously) and it will include his first encounter with the Joker. I have played two Batman Arkham games and I have seen this big story develop over hours of gameplay and you have all these nods in in Arkham City for a sequel, which make you really look forward to it. For example: the Harley Quinn's positive pregnancy test that made me look forward to a sequel that would probably be based some years in the future and it will probably see Batman come up against the Joker's son. This may still happen, but we will probably have to wait until 2015 to see that. I would have rather preferred to continue the storyline than go backwards seven years. Don't get me wrong: I have no doubt that it will still be interesting to see the origins of the characters. Another reason to fear, though: it won't make sense with Asylum and City if they don't successfully manage to keep the continuity. This could, in turn, draw fans away from the established storyline. Another minor point about prequels is that they have a sense of predictability about them. I don't mean that you'll be able to guess the entire storyline or anything, but you do - deep down - know how it's going to end for almost all of the characters, which does suck a little originality out from proceedings and makes it a little less entertaining as a result.
