Batman Arkham Origins: 2 Reasons It'll Beat Its Predecessors (And 2 Reasons It Won't)

Why It Will Be Better...

2. Gotham City

Gotham So Depressing That Even Christmas Cant Cheer It Up As I already mentioned, one thing I don't like about Arkham Asylum is that the map of the game is very restrictive - it's only medical buildings and small outdoor areas. Luckily in Arkham City, they gave us a great map, which gave us lots of places to explore and they also added in Cape Diving. which is really fun. So, I was very happy to hear that Arkham Origins would feature the whole of Gotham City. The addition of Gotham has been long awaited in this series, in Arkham City we did get a small fraction of Gotham, but it was all closed off from the rest of the city. In Origins though, we get the slums (where Arkham City was based) and the well built-up area of Gotham with all the skyscrapers. Origins also gives you the option to fast travel around Gotham using the Batmobile or the Batwing, although I don't think you get to drive them (which is a shame). The addition of Gotham gives the developers something really useful the work with. Missions will probably cover bigger areas than Asylum or City, and with a bigger map, you probably will have bigger missions. This also means that the increased number of side missions which they have included will be much better, which is always good because if you complete the main storyline you still have more to do. Hopefully, they have improved the underwhelming side missions in Arkham City. Unfortunately, Riddler Trophies won't be returning, but it does make sense because it is probably too early in Batman's career for Edward Nigma to have an obsession. I hope they have something similar in Origins, because a big city would be the perfect place to hide trophies or whatever they want to hide and it would make it really challenging, which is what we all want from a game. Let's hope they haven't wasted a great opportunity.
