Battlefield 1: 10 Problems From The Beta That Must Be Fixed
8. The Inability To View Squad Members On Spawn
Being able to see squad members before you spawn has been present in past Battlefield games, yet was removed for Battlefield 1. It more than likely has to do with the fact it fits with the time period, as intel like that just wasn't available at the time (or something).
What we seem to forget here though, is this is a video game, not real life. Some features are there not because of realism, but for convenience of the player. Spawning in on a squad member at times can be risky business, as there's no real warning as to whether or not they are in trouble. The only thing that happens is when they are shooting or under fire, their arrow on the map will blink, and you're unable to spawn on them for a certain amount of time.
However, too many times I would spawn in on a squad mate who was at a flag in Conquest or an objective in Rush, only to be immediately sniped, run down by a machine gun or even worse, a tank. There's no definitive way to know what danger you're getting yourself in to, and it will cause more frustration than anything else for players. The problem may actually be more prominent in Rush as well, as combat tends to be a lot closer with enemies more bunched up around a lot more chokepoints. Factor in Rush's ticket bleed mechanic, and senseless deaths that could have been avoided hurt even more.
