Battlefield V: 10 Radical Gameplay Changes You Totally Missed
10. 'Tides Of War' Will Replace Premium Pass (And Loot Boxes)
Following in the footsteps of Star Wars Battlefront 2, EA and DICE are opting to get rid of the premium season pass for Battlefield V, rather than segment its community between those who did or didn't pony up for expansions.
However, while that noble approach bombed for Battlefront - which has received little new content since its release - the developers seemingly have a far stronger idea of how additional DLC will be rolled out for this sequel.
Dubbed "Tides of War", Battlefield V will follow the real-world progression through WW2, starting at the beginning of the war with levels based on the invasion of Europe and following the conflict, with new maps, modes and weapons being added, right up until the invasion of Berlin.
This shifting meta should keep the sequel fresh in a way the previous game just wasn't able to be, and could even set a precedent for how post-release multiplayer content should be handled generally moving forward.
Likewise, ever since Star Wars Battlefront 2 broke the camel's back in regards to microtransactions, EA have reversed their stance on loot boxes, also proclaiming that they won't have a presence in the upcoming Battlefield sequel.
