Before FIFA 13: The Evolution Of Football's Biggest Gaming Franchise

1996 - FIFA 97 For the first time in the series, commentary was introduced, with John Motson and Andy Gray talking you through the game, Des Lynam also lent his voice to introduce the action for the most immersive and authentic footballing experience in the series to date. Another new feature was the ability to play 6-a-side indoor football (see above image). With the ball bouncing off the walls, there were no throw-ins or corner kicks, just nonstop action until someone scored a goal. There was also, of course, the option to play outdoors as well, with all the standard rules of the game included. With the tagline: "Motion Captured", motion capture technology provided by David Ginola provided the game with life-like player movement and actions. Most European domestic leagues were featured in the game, including the English Premier League, but only teams from each nation's highest division were playable. The English clubs featured in the game were those who played in the 1995-96 Premier League.
