Before GTA V: Ranking Best To Worst Grand Theft Auto Games

9. WORST: Grand Theft Auto Advance

The only Grand Theft Auto game that was not created by Rockstar (rather, Rockstar produced it), Grand Theft Auto Advance (for the Game Boy Advance) is an enormous disappointment to the franchise. Digital Eclipse should be ashamed of themselves for this wretched creation. It is unfulfilling and, in short, does not feel like a true Grand Theft Auto game. It lacks the passion that Rockstar seems to have for their games. This is the only game on the list that I can truly refer to as "bad." Whether it were Digital Eclipse or Activision, GTA Advance is proof that if it's not Rockstar, it's not worth it. The entire Grand Theft Auto franchise (with the exception of Advance) has been revolutionary in almost every way. Rockstar understands what makes a good game, and they innovate. They are not afraid to try something new, as they proved with GTA IV. As much criticism as the game received, they took it to heart and listened to the reviews and their fans - at least that's what it seems like with what we know so far about Grand Theft Auto V. Regardless, in a few months' time we will discover if Rockstar can continue innovating with their newest installment - which includes three playable protagonists, the series's largest map, and a complete system overhaul - or if they fall short. Personally, I'm leaning towards successful innovation - but time will tell.
