Bethesda has been trying to make a sci-fi RPG for years, constantly having to scrap game after game, meaning Starfield is going to be passion incarnate.

Why does this matter? Well, it means we are likely to see an amalgamation of all their scrapped projects poured into one. We might not have any solid gameplay, but the strongest indicator for how the game is going to play out comes from various others that never came to be.

We have a game like Tenth Planet, which promised intense space battles that had an incredibly expansive scope. And then there is the Star Trek RPG pitch that didn't get anywhere. Bethesda has been building and scrapping sci-fi properties for years, so it is likely that we'll see the intricate space dogfighting of Tenth Planet and the deep role-playing aspects of Star Trek, all combined into one glorious beast of a game.

Or, y'know, it could just be a new idea. The important takeaway is that there is cause to be excited. Bethesda are finally taking to the stars proper, and that is reason enough to keep an eye on this project from here on out.

I like video games, writing and writing about video games. Expect sarcasm and the dry wit of a Brit. And the occasional rant of a unhappy Scot. You know... the usual.
