2. Cinematic Story Telling
A direction that the majority of big titles tend to be taking these days is that of the epic, blown out tension building type, the kind of scene producing techniques found in many blockbuster movies. This is for obvious reasons, as if youre going to spend a lot of money making a game you might as well pull in the movie watching crowds. Although a somewhat common, and arguably tiresome, perspective to take in the gaming world some games just nail the cinematic qualities in a way that is truly thrilling. BioShock is a prime example here, it offered the perfectly paced setting reveal literally starting the game off with a bang, a terrifying antagonist introduction with the Big Daddy and a genuinely unexpected plot twist, all done in cinematic style but with pure elegance. Irrational Games have proved they still have the big screen genius with their lengthy BioShock Infinite gameplay presentation which just looks phenomenal.
