Borderlands 3: Everything We Know So Far
7. Split-Screen Is Returning (Thankfully)
What made Borderlands so special was just how multiplayer focused it was. Sure, it was still a joy to play solo, but getting a gang of friends together and tearing up Pandora was the way the first two games were supposed to be experienced. Fortunately, the developers made that as easy as possible, with the games having a great drop-in, drop-out system where other players could join in either online or locally.
After those titles shipped, though, the industry as a whole tried its best to kill local multiplayer, with the biggest franchises slowly eliminating split-screen functionality from their games.
Fortunately, developers seem to be coming back around on the idea, with Gearbox in particular putting split-screen play front and centre of their reveal trailers for Borderlands 3. The devs have since come out to clarify that, just like the other releases, Borderlands 3 can be played with up to three other people online, as well as on the same console.
