Breath Of The Wild 2: 5 Features From Past Zeldas It MUST Have

What could return to make it feel more like Zelda?

With Breath of the Wild being a breath of fresh air for the franchise, many fell in love with the new features that revolutionized the standard Zelda formula.

Many felt that what it gained in its huge open world, it lost in individuality, gameplay and characters. Gone were the series staples of linear item acquisition and formidable bosses with bright glowing weaknesses, instead we had the freedom to explore and learn about the world and adventure our own way.

With the trailer showcasing a slightly darker Zelda, similar to what Majora's Mask was to Ocarina of Time, one can only wonder what else may be changing for the franchise.

As direct sequels to Zelda games are few and far between, Nintendo often recycles assets over development cycles which means many things from the previous game will be returning.

However many fans are excited for other aspects to return from even older games that would make Zelda feel a bit more like the classic Zelda we've all grown to love.

5. Swimming, Diving & Exploring

One of the many features that were removed in Breath of The Wild that were prevalent in previous Zelda titles was the feature to dive down and actually explore what was hidden beneath the water.

Swimming and diving was often locked behind certain items within the games such as Zora Armor or Flippers, but it allowed Link to get past puzzles or access temples.

With the trailer for the sequel focusing on dark underground caverns, it would not be difficult to imagine many of those caverns to feature large underwater passages full of enemies or treasure. With the ability to explore these areas also includes the prospect of new puzzles, gameplay and even equipment for Link to use while underwater.

Items like the Heavy Boots, appearing in games like Twilight Princess, would allow Link to sink to the bottom and use his weaponry. Being able to spin and jump out of the water like in Skyward Sword would allow you to overcome obstacles, too. The ability to scale waterfalls with the Zora tunic could return in some manner to allow easier traversal. Other items or magic might allow Link to see in even the darkest depths.

Even outside of the caverns and new areas shown in the trailers, being able to dive and swim around freely opens up huge areas for Link to explore off the coast of Hyrule. Just imagine being able to swim between the beautiful coral in the seas outside Lurelin Village, or go Pearl Diving in Zora's Domain.
