One of the many fantastical creatures that are a part of the Legend of Zeldas lore are the Loftwings from Skyward Sword. These great majestic birds were key to the origins of the legendary hero as a knight of Skyloft, who rode upon these beasts above the clouds.
However, they have not appeared in any of the other games, and the only similar creatures were the bird-like people known as the Rito who first appeared in the Wind Waker. These giant birds adorn the Hylian crest, yet have not been seen since. However, they have been alluded to within the Hidden Temple, as giant bird statues on the outskirts of the temple resemble these creatures.
With the trailer showcasing Hyrule castle appearing to rise from the ground in a similar fashion to how the Goddess of legend lifted Skyloft into the heavens, it appears these once great birds may return to the franchise as a means of transportation between the skies.
