Call Of Duty: 15 Iconic Moments That Confirm Its Genius

2. World At War/Black Ops 1 & 2 €“ Victor Reznov

It would be criminal to not mention the most prominent individual character of the Treyarch series if not the entire Call Of Duty franchise. Reznov is the man that directly connects World At War with Black Ops (and the sequel) both directly and indirectly. In World At War he is your squad leader and the man that inspires you to survive. In Black Ops he helps you escape Vorkuta before assisting you in defeating the antagonists that betrayed Reznov years earlier. And finally in Black Ops 2 whilst only appearing very briefly he manages to save your life yet again. Or does he? It transpires in the climax of Black Ops that Reznov was actually killed escaping from Vorkuta and has only been the player-character's hallucination. Now, that was a twist €“ until it's revealed, you wouldn't have thought Reznov could possibly be imaginary. It does make sense afterwards but disbelief is still the prominent feeling in the present. But it does serve to prove just how badass you the player must have looked to all your AI allies, witnessing you killing twice as many enemies as you really thought. It takes real intelligence and talent to pull off a twist like this one. Infinity Ward may have Captain Price but Treyarch have the iconic Victor Reznov.

I’ve been a film fan for as long as I can remember, with one of my earliest memories watching my dad’s copy of Star Wars one rainy afternoon in the mid-nineties. Then the 21st century happened, and my interests developed from there – mainly including comics and video-games, and recently an introduction into WWE. It’s a good time for popular culture.
