Call Of Duty: Black Ops 3 - 10 Reasons The Series Should Return To World War 2
7. There's Room For Imagination
While the reason World War 2 shooters started to wane on everybody in the first place was mostly due to the repetition inherent to the setting (just ask any older gamers how many times they've played through a D-Day section in a shooter), there's no reason why a potential historical Call of Duty would have to stick to the history books. Last year's Wolfenstein showed that players will happily lap up a revisionist history setting, and as a result, a World War 2 Call of Duty essentially has free reign to rewrite the rulebook on how the setting can be done. Want to focus on a smaller team of Nazi Killing soldiers who eventually hunt down Hitler in an over-the-top campy globetrotting adventure a la Inglourious Basterds? Sure. Or maybe create an alternative history where you keep the jetpacks that are integral to Advanced Warfare but implement them in a historic trench warfare setting? Why not? Just because it's World War 2 it doesn't mean you have to go through the exact same D-Day scenario all over again.
