3. Graphics Are Still A Mixed Bag
One consistent complaint across the CoD franchise is that the games just aren't where they need to be visually. Now, last year's Advanced Warfare did see the series take something of a graphical step up from the laughably outdated Ghosts, but much like this year's offering, it's still all over the place. Black Ops 3's campaign is where the game shines most graphics-wise: there are genuinely stunning moments, even if most of them are curiously control-free, in-engine cut-scenes, but the majority of the shooting is fairly standard and underwhelming to look at. Not ugly by any means, but it doesn't do enough to "pop". This transpires through to the multiplayer, too: granted, the game runs at a smooth 60FPS as ever, but the texture quality ranges from solid to downright terrible, especially when looking at floor surfaces up-close, which often look like an intern cobbled them together on a lazy Friday night. Still, you'll be flying around so violently you'll probably struggle to notice a lot of the time. The more slow-moving campaign, however, certainly draws attention to low-res environmental textures. Why can't we just have a CoD game that looks as consistently gorgeous as, say, Killzone: Shadow Fall? I suppose we might need to lose the 60 FPS in that case...
