Call of Duty: Ghosts - 10 Reasons Next-Gen Will Save The Franchise

7. Superior Online Multiplayer

Call of Duty's most famed and praised aspect of all is its fantastically, scarily addictive multiplayer component, which ingeniously introduced a progression system into online shooters, one that has been copied by just about every like-minded game since. It made the killing feel like you were actually working towards something, and introduced a hugely competitive element, in seeing if you could hit Prestige Mode before any of your friends. However, the limitations of current-gen tech have really caused the Call of Duty series to lag behind; while I've been able to play epic 64-player battles on the PC version of Battlefield 3 for the last 18 months, Call of Duty remains limited to a measly 18 players in any console multiplayer match. Though this does admittedly suit the relatively fast pace and small scale of the battles, one hopes that Infinity Ward will take full advantage of next-gen tech and move up towards some more sizable firefights; even just 32-player battles would do wonders for the series and also greatly incentivise picking up a new console.
