Call of Duty: Ghosts - 10 Reasons Next-Gen Will Save The Franchise

2. Destructible Environments

It bugs me that, despite games as old as Red Faction - yes, it is over a decade old now... - having destructible scenery, there are so many modern games that still elect not to include it. Now, I'm not necessarily asking for carnage on the scale of the building-leveling mayhem of Battlefield 3 (pictured above), but if I throw a grenade on a map, I expect to see it take a chunk out of the porcelain display nearby. Apparently Ghosts will include environmental damage, though the extent of it is not yet known. During an epic firefight, I want to see the environment being shattered to pieces like in a John Woo movie; in this day and age, with everything developers are capable of achieving, some basic particle physics and damage mechanics shouldn't be too challenging, should they? Moreover, it would introduce some much-needed strategy into play if things get more complex; imagine seeing a bad guy crossing a bridge, so you fire a rocket and stop him dead. It'd add so much to the series and would be relatively simple to implement (I think).
