Call of Duty Ghosts: 10 Things To Improve

8. More Memorable Squadmates

Shown above is Sandman, the squad leader in Modern Warfare 3 who met an unfortunate end at the penultimate level of the game. Other than him, Price, Ghost, Sgt. Foley, Soap, and Gaz, it would not be so fanciful to say that most of the characters in these games can be rather forgettable. Although the A.I. grows by leaps and bounds over the course of new sequels, and fighting alongside other soldiers is always comforting, the Modern Warfare series has a habit of throwing characters' lives away - all of the people mentioned in the previous paragraph, minus Price and Sgt. Foley, are dead. And many more died along the way. The conflicts, regardless of their scale in size, have always been deadly ones, but death is rampant in the MW games. In Killzone (and dammit do I loathe the ISA), the survival rate of your team, minus a minor genocide in the third game, remains fairly consistent. In the Resistance games, people die left and right, but the character development is far better, and you at least remember the guys you were with. The same can be said for Gears of War, Halo, the F.E.A.R. series, etc - so why not Call of Duty? Making forgettable characters with few exceptions over and over again gets kind of dull after a while.
