Call of Duty Ghosts: 5 Reasons It Should Be Next-Gen Only
2. It Will Allow Activision To See How They Fare Against Significant Competition
There is a title FPS for all three consoles. Nintendo has Metroid, the tale of Samus Aran bailing the Galactic Federation out of their own messes. The PlayStation has the Killzone series, a tale of gunfights and politics in an alternate-universe future, and Resistance, a tale of a virus turning most of the human population into the violently hostile Chimera, in an alternate-universe 1950s. The XBOX 360 has Halo (duh), and Gears of War, the trials and tribulations of VERY buff dudes clashing against the subterranean Locust.
Of these titles, none (save for Resistance 2 ) have ever been released in such close proximity to a Call of Duty title. For the first time, CoD will have some VERY real competition in the market. The XBOX One has plenty of alluring launch titles, among them Bungie's new shooter, Destiny, which will likely draw those faithful to Bungie. Sony hasn't revealed much yet, only confirming five launch titles, but the latest iteration of Killzone looks pretty damn good. With Sony expected to reveal more about the PS4 at the upcoming E3, it is very likely that they will lift the veil on even more games to compete with Call of Duty come fall. Regardless of what happens at E3, Activision knows that the fight to dominate the market will be a crowded one.
Call of Duty usually has the safe release of the second week of November, allowing gamers to happily ditch whatever they were playing to go scoop it up. This fall, they will not be as fortunate, however it will allow them to see how popular their game really is.
