Call of Duty Ghosts: 5 Things It Must Do Better Than Its Recent Predecessors

5. Less May Be More

Call of Duty Ghosts I know for a fact that this point will automatically polarise opinions so I'll try my best to drag some of you over to my side of thinking! This issue actually involves two segments which I believe both need to be remedied before Ghosts hits my desk. The first segment involved here is the amount of weaponry available on recent Call of Duty titles - from Modern Warfare 2 to Black Ops 2. As I mentioned in the introduction, I first forayed into the CoD universe whilst playing on the first Modern Warfare instalment. Now, that game was supremely simple and absolutely clear cut. There were seven Assault class weapons and two Shotgun class weapons. This gave a nice range and didn't overburden the player with pointless choices between four similar weapons which did almost the same job. I just don't think we need seven different Shotguns and ten different automatic Assault rifles - perhaps you could include three burst rifles, three autos and two single fires? In addition to weapons, recent Call of Duty games have further overcomplicated the great Create-A-Class option by introducing equipment such as the Portable Radar and the Trophy System (among others) which the next game could certainly do without. For starters, the Portable Radar just breeds campers and the Trophy System just feels utterly pointless in most game modes - excluding Domination and Headquarters. The second segment to this point is to do with the map set. The maps are becoming far too complicated to the point where players find it impossible to feel safe. On Black Ops 2 and Modern Warfare 3, there are usually three or even four entrances to each bomb site or building and it all just looks and feels like a complete mess. The problem to this theory is the obvious question: how is taking away class options and map detail a step forward? This is a very valid question and the obvious hole in this point.
