Complete History Of WWE Video Games - Part 1 (1987-1995)

10. "WWF King of the Ring" (NES/Game Boy) 1993

13 King Of Ring Another NES game. Based on the PPV of the same name, King of the Ring had players taking part in an 8-man single player tournament to be named, King of the Ring. This added to the already omnipresent champion mode in which you again had to fight through the entire roster to become WWF Champion. The roster was made up of 11 wrestlers in all. Ten real WWF stars and "You" a guy with a question mark for a head. Every wrestler had the same move set, no signature moves, but they did have differing stats depending on their wrestling style. For example, Yokozuna was slow but strong, Bret quick but weaker and Hulk Hogan's moustache was rated impressive but outdated. King of the Ring was released very late in the NES lifespan, being that it came out in 1993. This meant that its graphics were decent (for a NES game) but not very impressive overall. Keeping in mind that the SNES had come out and already had a wrestling game at this point, King of the Ring could not compete with it on any level. Added to that the fact that had terrible controls and sluggish movement, meant another bad NES game for the books. Thankfully it was the last one ever made for the console, and things started to slowly improve as the 16 bit consoles took over.
