WWE Wrestlemania 21 (Xbox) 2005
If Raw 2 was a decent, underrated game, Wrestlemania 21 was a massive disappointment. It was the second ever game by new developer "Studio Gigante" and despite early signs that it would succeed, was mostly a failure. With the new developers came a brand new system. A was for quick grapples, B for submissions, X for strikes and most interaction being set to L. In fairness it was very simple and easy to pick up. Unfortunately, the collision detection in the game was almost always terrible, especially when multiple people squared off at once. Game breaking bugs included the ability to keep an opponent on the mat constantly just by repeatedly striking them. Additionally, multiple participant matches exposed some terrible AI with the third or fourth wrestlers sometimes deciding they just didn't want to join in. This was all made extra disappointing by the fact that the game was graphically pretty good with good details and motion capture. Create a Wrestler was still pretty good and for some people maybe even enough to save the poor game. Created wrestlers had their own career mode too, though it was just a single playthrough that was the same everytime. Regular career mode was made up of 52 weeks of matches with decent variation but it still had the same gameplay problems that plagued the exhibition mode. Wrestlemania 21 was a big step back from the Raw franchise and a lot of wasted potential. The visuals made it seem like it had potential, but the gameplay was too frustrating to look past. It was widely panned by critics and fans alike, and Studio Gigante went out of business shortly after the games release.
