Control: 5 Things That Stop It Being A Great Game
3. Bureau Alerts
These things.
Bureau Alerts are mini missions that appear at random, but consistently feel like a chore. You're given a 20 minute time limit to reach a location and complete an objective, be it protect allies or kill specific Hiss enemies, in order to get rewards upon completion. Every time that alarm sound goes off, your feelings will range from apathetic to inconvenienced.
One of the main issues is that, apart from if you're looking for materials to upgrade the Service Weapon, they feel unnecessary.
There is no consequence to failing them, and it largely feels like they don't add anything to game, seeming almost as if they were added just for the sake of more content.
They also always seem to trigger at incredibly annoying times.
If you're exploring a new area, or in the middle of a conversation with another character, there's a chance that alarm will go off and the game will demand your attention elsewhere. And if you're like me, the knowledge that there's a timer ticking down will win out over the fact it doesn't matter, meaning you've dropped what you're doing for another distraction.
