Control: 5 Things That Stop It Being A Great Game
2. That Anti-Climactic Ending
Some of the late stage sections of control are incredible, with sequences like traversing the Ashtray Maze being a joy to play and watch, so it is a shame that the ending plays out in such an underwhelming way.
After being reunited with Jesse's Hiss corrupted brother Dylan earlier in the story, it feels like the game is leading to a showdown between the long-separated Faden siblings, so it comes as quite a shock when the final battle is between Jesse and the same kinds of enemies that you've been fighting for the entirety of the story beforehand, with the 'showdown' being reaching Dylan and holding a button down.
Now, of course it's wrong to hold the fact that something you expected to happen didn't happen against the game, but it just felt like it was building to something... more, than fighting through groups of enemies again, especially after an incredible ending fake-out and narrative sequence.
Perhaps a more satisfying ending will be provided in some of the story DLC that Remedy has planned for the game in the future. Here's hoping so.
