Crash Bandicoot 4: 10 Hardest Levels Ranked

4. The Crate Escape

Crash bandicoot 4
Activision

As mentioned in the entry for Out For Launch, Crash 4 is unique in that it gives you the chance to play as more than just Crash. There are levels where you play as alternate-universe Tawna, Dingodile, and even the villainous Dr. Neo Cortex.

Unfortunately, Cortex is easily the worst of the three, with a pitiful jump, a less-than-reliable blaster, and a dash with an "arm flap" (because physical comedy.) that makes it unnecessarily hard to make jumps.

Oddly enough, though, the Cortex section is not the worst part of The Crate Escape. No, this level makes it on the list primarily because of its ending section which, to be perfectly frank, is Hell.

This section sees you controlling Crash/Coco across rapidly-moving crates in the sky. It's an auto-scrolling section, so if you happen to miss any boxes on your way, you have to add one to your death counter and start over. But even if you're not going for the box gem, it can be super challenging to determine where you're going to land, as the wind occasionally makes the controls feel unreliable and sluggish.

Oh, and if that wasn't bad enough, the Green Exclamation Mark Crate is situated at the bottom of the ship. So, if you're like me and you think that you just have to hop across the crates to finish the level, you'll miss that crate and, by extension, not destroy the remaining Nitro crates, meaning you won't get the box gem.

F**k this level.
