2. Nitrous Oxide
Nitrous Oxide almost got first place, but just has to settle for second. This seems pretty fitting, seeing as he ultimately loses in Crash Team Racing, but unlike in his climactic race, he doesn’t cheat and fly off the block first.
In fact, quite the opposite. Playing as Nitrous Oxide has been a long time coming; no matter what you did on the original game, there was simply no way to get him. Now, finally, he can be yours.
The Nitrous Oxide version of the game comes with him and a few other characters included, but he can be unlocked for free just by beating the Adventure Mode too. It’s a pretty dumb story, with Oxide wanting to beat Earth’s best racer then turn the planet into a car park, but he actually makes for a pretty great villain.
Getting to beat and then play as the big bad boss is one thing, but for fans of the original it’s just been such a long time coming that it feels extra special.
