If you've ever been screwed over by a Blue Shell in Mario Kart, this is the game for you. Skill takes massive precedence here.

One of the most important things about Crash Team Racing is how much importance it places skill over the use of items. Learning how to drift and boost is so integral, that the game would almost function better by solely relying on those mechanics.

Although it's true that items can sometimes feel a little cheap, almost all of them have some sort of counter to prevent them from completely taking over the race.

Compare this to Mario Kart, which feels like it prioritizes making the race fun for everyone more than it does making it fair. We all laugh at the Blue Shell, but it really is an annoying mechanic when you start to get to higher-level play.

An online-match of Crash Team Racing feels like a genuine challenge, and that's the way it should be.
