Ruiner is a violent and grim top-down action game developed by Reikon Games and published by Devolver Digital in 2017.

Set in 2091 in a world where AI’s and cyborgs are commonplace, you play as a protagonist dubbed “Puppy” by a mysterious hacker who speaks to you directly through your cybernetic implants and sends you on a mission of bloody vengeance.

You’ll utilise a variety of weaponry ranging from powerful laser cannons all the way to the humble steel pipe.

Ruiner’s gameplay is decidedly old-school and recalls side-scrolling brawlers from the 16-bit console era. You’ll hack and shoot your way through hordes of grotesque cyborgs and robots, punctuated with a healthy amount of boss fights. There are also some light RPG mechanics and character customisation in the way of purchasing and upgrading abilities and perks.

Ruiner’s campaign should only take about six hours or so to finish; it’s a fun bitesize piece of Cyberpunk action.
