7. Shadowrun: Dragonfall
Dragonfall is a crunchy tactical RPG based in the world of Shadowrun - a fantasy sci-fi setting which originated as a tabletop role-playing game. In Shadowrun, stereotypical fantasy elements such as elves, dragons, and magic exist alongside futuristic tech and cyber-space amongst other tropes you’d associate with a more traditional Cyberpunk setting.
Unsurprisingly for a game based on a tabletop RPG, this game has lots of mechanical depth for players to lose themselves in; this is not an RPG that you’re able to beat without giving some thought to your tactics.
The game’s story is set in motion by a friend’s mysterious death and their cryptic last word, "Feuerschwinge". Gradually, the player will unravel a vast conspiracy involving dragon-worshipping cults and rogue AI's.
Shadowrun: Dragonfall was one of three Shadowrun RPG’s released between 2013-2015. All three games have since been bundled together as the Shadowrun Collection.
