4. "Street Cred" Is The Progression System

Though not much has been revealed about the progression system at the heart of Cyberpunk 2077, it has been confirmed that the way you open up new areas in the sandbox and pursue narrative threads and missions is by amassing "street cred'".

As mentioned previously, the thrust of the game has you playing as a hired gun trying to make a name for themselves, with street cred being an assessment of how well you're doing at that job. Not too much more was revealed about how it will actually work, but it has been confirmed that you can gain more of this currency primarily by completing quests and exploring.

Essentially, it's a way for CD Projekt Red to tie the regular XP system into the actual story itself, organically opening up new paths and characters based on the actions you're doing in game.
