Cyberpunk 2077: 10 Harsh Gameplay Truths You Need To Know
8. Body Mods Have Been Downplayed
Little bit of a strange one here that’s been swept under the carpet, despite once being touted as a massive feature.
Way back when the game was first teased in 2013, a woman with spring loaded blades in her forearms was shown. Early buzz was heavily around the body modification aspect, and while naturally the conversation has spread wider, it feels like body mods aren’t going to have the huge influence we thought they were.
The demo showed one version of V strong enough to rip a machine gun turret to shreds which, while cool, is hardly groundbreaking.
Obviously Johnny Silverhand has a metallic arm, and while that’s closer to the body modifications we were promised, it still falls quite short. Some trailers have shown posters of characters with three mouths, for example. Yet everyone we met in the demo was fairly normal, apart from the occasional metal limb.
The Vs we’ve seen aren’t selling it, either. There’s a male who looks like Borderlands’ Brick, and a female who looks like Overwatch’s Sombra.
It’s possible you can go hog wild with customisation, but why not show us that instead of generic characters with a few bits of circuitry?
