Cyberpunk 2077: 10 Ways It Will Change RPGs Forever

7. A Backstory That Matters

Having a backstory is nothing new to a state of the art RPG, with the early access build of Baldur's Gate 3 even coming with various options to choose from. But where choices like these tend to not affect gameplay that much, or even at all, Cyberpunk is taking this concept to the next level.

During character creation you will be faced with a choice between 3 "Lifepaths", each with their own playable prequel and emphasis on which social interactions V will be most suited to.

The first is the life of a corporate douchebag, interested in money and doing whatever it takes to get ahead (Corpo); while the second is an apocalyptic outcast who struggles to fit into the everyday hustle and bustle of Night City (Nomad). Last but not least, we have the usual Cyberpunk archetype of the cunning troublemaker that was brought up with next to nothing (Street Kid).

Each Lifepath has its pros and cons. A Street Kid is better suited to interactions with the underground organizations of the city, for example, extending his dialogue options in these instances. He will, however, find it difficult to speak to wealthier characters, but that won't be a problem for the Corpo.
