5. How Backstory Works
Choose a gender, face, some hair, build, and skin colour.
Laboured, to say the least, character design has been around for a while now, where the world and gear come first and the hollow ghost of your playable avatar comes second.
Whilst it would not seem like a burning issue, CDPR has taken a somewhat unique and original approach to the character of “V”, who you will play as throughout the campaign.
Choosing a backstory - one of 3 options as we can gather - helps shape your character and your playthrough, changing the way your protagonist will progress throughout the world and shape their destiny.
You will have 3 categories to answer to, with 3 different choices:
Who is your childhood hero?
What was your key life event?
Why did you choose Night City?
These are all no doubt important to making your playthrough an individual experience, rather than a shared one.
