D&D: 10 Underused Monsters That Will Destroy Even The Toughest Party
9. Banshee
Making its way from Irish mythology, the Banshee is an undead entity that packs a horrifying suite of abilities that can absolutely derail the plans of a party instantaneously.
Perhaps most underrated of all is that it can detect life. The Banshee knows you are coming if you get within 5 miles of it. That means the element of surprise is a moot point on these monstrosities.
Despite low health and armor, the Banshee can fly quicker than most characters can move and is able to travel through solid objects, making them exceedingly difficult to pin down. But a Banshee is of course most known for its dreaded wail. In the world of D&D, it doesn't disappoint. If players get within 30 feet of her and she screams, failing to save against her cry will result in instantaneously dropping to 0 hit points.
Not only that, but she can also magically frighten those who look upon her, making it even more difficult to save those who fall to her ghostly shriek. More than one adventuring party has had its entire plan turned on its head because of a few lousy rolls against this foul ghost's scream.
