Dark Souls 2: 10 Essential Pointers To Make Sure You Start Strong

9. Choose Your Fighting Style

Choose Dark Souls At the start of the game, you will be asked to construct a character out of several classes. Depending on which one you pick changes the items and equipment you will receive initially at the start of the game and also ties in with how you will play Dark Souls 2. As I was always a melee fighter in Dark Souls, I took on the same character for my time in Drangleic. I find a melee character to be the best for me overall; while ranged characters who use spells and bows are good for fighting at a distance, I find it easier to get in closer and wail on enemies whenever I can. Your play style is entirely up to you, and learning which is best is important. Experiment with different weapon types to find which is best for you, which allows you to attack hardest and quickest, and which you can use comfortably without much risk. Heavier weapons require more time and effort to attack with, while bows and spells are much more effective at a distance. An important point to remember in Dark Souls 2 is you can reset your character at any time by visiting the firekeepers in Things Betwixt, allowing you to start with a clean slate should you hate the character you've made.
