Dark Souls 2: 10 Gaming Tropes You Quickly Need To Unlearn In Preparation

7. Good Will Conquer Evil

Dark Souls really isn't good at this concept. That's probably because of the fact that good and evil is never so easily discerned in its universe. It's a plateau of dark grey areas, a place for demons. In this world, the chaotic energies thrive, and any hope of order is trampled into pitiful specks of dust. This won't be the heroic sort of tale that so many of us know and love. The world of Dark Souls 1 was already doomed when we entered it; our purpose was dubious at best, and ultimately, both possible endings had extremely depressing implications. It will be a big surprise if Dark Souls II does things differently. But really, the ending is kind of irrelevant: it's all about the journey, conquering one obstacle at a time. And when you reach the end, why, just do it all again. Just don't expect Dark Souls II to give us an uplifting ending, where evil is entirely repelled and the land will thrive with light. It's the nature of the beast - but let's get one thing straight, we wouldn't have it any other way.
