5. Greater Environmental Interaction

Among the new additions and changes that a brand new game engine should deliver, one of these should surely be improvements to the game environment and a players interaction with the world theyre immersed in For example, (and destructible pillars in the Smough-Ornstein boss fight aside) Dark Souls featured almost no destructible environments that the player could plough through. Imagine, then, being able to wield something akin to Smoughs hammer, and to be able to smash up bits of the environment (walls and pillars for etc.) and bring them down on enemies. Or imagine making your way through terrain that shifts and moves, forcing you to be quick on your feet. Exploring the different realms and areas of Lordran was no doubt a fascinating and deeply immersive experience, and From Software managed to create a huge, compelling world for us to lose ourselves in. But as was mentioned before, there was very little interaction with the world itself (aside pulling the occasional lever, opening a door or climbing a ladder). There were also little annoyances like not being able to mount small steps in the environment, forcing you to take the long way around to reach the higher ground. More interactive environments such as Sens Fortress (giant rolling rocks, wall traps, deadly swinging guillotines) or Northern Undead Asylum (were the ground literally crumbles beneath you) would be welcome in the sequel. Hopefully, Dark Souls IIs new game engine will make this possible.
