Dark Souls: Top 8 Boss Fights
5. Chaos Witch Quelaag
http://youtu.be/SPOGWqcCtSkQuelaag is one of the earlier fights in the game, and one of the harder fights too. She's probably the hardest boss you'll have come across in the early sections of the game. But hey, you don't expect a half spider-half lady monster to be easy now do you? Touching on the fight itself, Quelaag has a variety of attacks that range from normal attacks to AoE attacks too. She's also pretty fast and can jump around the battle arena. Some of her AoE attacks spew lava onto the floor, restricting the player's movement as lava can quickly sap your health. It's a decent fight and one of the hardest for the early period, but that also makes it good. When you first face Quelaag, she offers a smile that's not for you, but for the humanity within you. You see, Quelaag makes it her duty to take others' humanity in order to provide them to her sister, Quelaan. Quelaan, like every other daughter of the Witch of Izalith (save one), has been transformed into a hideous monster. Unfortunately, she alone suffers extreme constant pain. The only way to rid that pain, for only a few seconds mind you, is to feed her humanity. Quelaag thus protects her sister, hiding Quelaan behind an illusory wall and collecting humanity for her. You of course break this relationship by defeating Quelaag, although the option to collect humanity for Quelaan is still available, as since Quelaan is blind, she doesn't know of Quelaag's passing and mistakes your interactions with her as those from Quelaag. The battle is memorable for two things. It's a hard battle early on in the game and also introduces you to the misfortune of the daughters of the Witch of Izalith.I'll be fine, I have you, dear sister. - Quelaan
