5. Increasingly Inventive Causes Of Death
Part of what will make Until Dawn different from many other games is the inventiveness of the threats and executions that the teens face. In the preview the playable character was offed with a gassing, something that is definitely a refreshing change from the usual hack n stab of traditional slashers. In a game that focuses so heavily on murder, inventiveness will be its saving grace. This was the joy of Manhunt (if you can call it joy) as its appeal lay in the sheer brutal craziness of some of the murders you had to implement. The Gamescom demo showed that players are quizzed about their gaming style and ways they feel they react to certain frightening situations. This will undoubtedly feed into the action and affect how the killers come after your characters so that you get a personalised tour of your own fears. This personalisation is fantastically innovative, and will hopefully set a precedent for horror games to make sure that players can be well and truly scared. Until Dawn is definitely pulling out all the stops to ensure this game is a completely new experience and so is bound to become a key turning point in the horror gaming genre.
