8. Co-op Drains The Atmosphere
Yes, that reason is co-operative play. Many groaned when it was announced at E3, fearing (seemingly correctly) that it was going to sterilise the experience and tailor it more towards casual gamers. Of course, you are totally able to play the game as a standalone, single-player offering, but inevitably people are wondering whether the solo component has been diluted in order to accommodate the more casual-friendly co-op experience, something we've seen happen in many similar games, specifically the later Resident Evil titles. Playing co-op, it makes us feel a lot safer, reducing the tension even more - though the drill section at the end of the demo is admittedly quite clever, requiring teamwork to survive - while it won't be until release date that we'll be able to definitively say that the single-player mode has been neutered and made a whole lot more accessible (and therefore entirely devoid of atmosphere).
