Dead Space 3: 5 Reasons It's Awesome, 5 Reasons It Sucks

2. Co-op Isn't Intrusive

005 The biggest question mark surrounding Dead Space 3 is unquestionably the introduction of a co-operative mode, which many cited as an indication of the franchise going the Resident Evil route and basically pandering to casual gamers the world over. After playing the demo on both co-op and single player modes, my feeling was that the single player experience would be watered down in order to accomodate the co-op mode, and though some concessions have definitely been made - getting through the game does require even single players to team up with Carver at some points - by and large Visceral Games have done bang-up job of balancing their aspirations, opening the game up to a larger audience but also not negating those who want an intense, isolated single player experience. Thankfully, the vast majority of the moments which will invite you to meet up with Carver are clearly delineated as such, and though I would struggle to recommend playing the game co-operatively to hardcore fans on a first playthrough, it is a fun diversion on your second time around.
