Death Stranding: 9 Steps To Understanding Hideo Kojima's First Trailer
6. Crying Norman Reedus & The Baby
Why is Norman Reedus crying? It's a question we'll hopefully never have to ponder in real life, but the version in-game quickly snatches up the young infant and clutches them tightly, sobbing very intensely for a good few seconds.
It's tough to tell what exact emotion is present, but the decision to include the child at such a young age is almost definitely to invoke feelings of innocence and protection. Reedus is both glad he's survived whatever ordeal predated his arrival on the beachfront, and has taken to nurturing the child immediately, aiming to 'protect' what innocence is left around him.
Taking that further and drawing a parallel to the handcuff point, you can literally see someone rediscover the need for human interaction, once the technological component of our lives has been left behind.
A reason to look up from your phone and cherish the person in front of you, perhaps?
