Death Stranding: 9 Steps To Understanding Hideo Kojima's First Trailer

1. The God Watchers - An Environmentally-Themed Game

For all that MGS V was about action, open-world experimentation and cleavage-fronting snipers, its attempt to break down all prejudicial barriers by relating them to language was pretty eye-opening. After all, have you ever thought about how much comfort and empathy you draw from someone you can easily communicate with?

It showed a level of wider thinking befitting of Hideo's increased age and exposure to the global politics of gaming and the industry - even the mech, Sahelanthropus was a real-life fossil with a story to tell.

All this points to a game that will deal heavily in both environmentalist themes and wider commentary on us as a people. We even see Reedus look to the sky, where five ominous figures are watching, waiting, judging his next move.

Where have our ideals come from? Why? How much of an impact has technology and digital media truly had on our lives? They're all things intrinsic to the Metal Gear Solid series, indicative of a creative mind bursting to talk about more in-depth subjects, yet forever beholden to one franchise.

Well, no more. Now Kojima is free to take us on another multi decade-long ride, and I couldn't be happier.
