6. Heartman
One of the more unique characters in Death Stranding, Heartman spends most of his time in purgatory, limbo or however, you’d like to phrase it as he is in search of his family. Every 21 minutes his heart stops and he travels to the other side in hope that he will find them again, but sadly he is only ever limited to 3 minutes earth time.
Now as we know when Sam was stuck on the beach it was a month earth time, but felt like an eternity for him (and us watching the credits) so it is unclear how long he truly spends on the beaches.
A life, death, revival cycle isn’t so easy to maintain so Heartman has gone to great lengths to not only death proof his lab/home, but to also surround himself with books, films and music that can be consumed within 20 minutes as he’ll need the extra minute to simply lie down and die for another 3.
His soul existence is now dedicated to exploring and learning about the other side and what defines the Beaches, but it just so happens that this will forever double up as an excuse to find his family. But for a character which is introduced so late in this near 60-hour experience, Heatman is quickly cemented into the team and also one of the more quirkier, entertaining members of the cast.
